Dematerialisierung is reducing the quantity of materials required to serve artistic functions. The idea of the installation is that the art object, the frame, is no longer the prime material, but the light that is projected onto the wall. The immaterial light functions become important, rather than the physical product. In the artistic process, the frame and the light projection live off each other, using each other’s energy. At the same time the artwork loses the physical limitations that it has in the real world when it is transferred to immaterial space. Dematerialisierung tries to replace a material product with an immaterial substitute, but the dependance on the physical product still remains. Dematerialisierung increases the awareness of our obsessive behaviour towards material objects. We should decrease our personal use and obsession with material goods by using fewer natural resources in products and extending the lifespan of products. Dematerialization is the future of an ecologically and economically balanced world. We should try to displace materials and energy more intelligently.
