How much desire is behind one of your selfies to be accepted, appreciated and loved? How far would you go to obtain that? Would you modify your being? Would you be able to delete every trace of you and reconstruct yourself according to what everybody could praise you for, adore for, virtually follow for? Would you remember what has always made you unique?
They seem some questions at the base of a psychological dystopia, but they’re actually pretty much legitimate to ask in a growing evolution of the digital world and its influence on our beings. At the same way, the Spectra artworks of the Luxembourgish artist Sali Muller touch themes as the one before, as the time that flows and things that inevitably change.
The Spectra artworks emit and absorb light showing a gradual transition between different values. In physics, spectra represent energy emission as lines, with the intensity of the line represented by the brightness and width of the line. A stellar spectrum can reveal many properties of of astronomical objects, such as their chemical composition, temperature, density, mass, distance and luminosity. The emotional spectrum reflects countless feelings experienced by human beings- ranging from positive sensations such as joy and love to negative states often triggered by fear, anger or sadness, and everything in between.
The Spectra artworks create ghostly visual effects where a distorted view arises, influencing how we perceive and interact with the world. The general viewing habits are lifted, there are no integral mirrors where you can reflect yourself properly. They make us slow our process of change to let us find again what has always been unique in us, inside us, while times flow and everything changes.
