WALLS HAVE EARS

Cut headphones
Dimensions: 145 x 300 cm

Exhibitions: Aesthetica Art Prize, York, The United Kingdom, 2016
Blackout, e.artis contemporary, Chemnitz, Germany, 2017

Walls Have Ears investigates communication, surveillance, and the act of listening in contemporary society. The installation consists of headphones divided into two parts, creating an intimate yet unsettling interface between sound, perception, and control.

The work reflects on the extreme realization of the Panopticon: a system in which all actions are observed, not only in public spaces but also in private ones. By fragmenting the headphones, the installation transforms listening into both a participatory and a critical act, reminding viewers of the tension between connection, observation, and intrusion.

Through sound and space, Walls Have Ears prompts reflection on how privacy, attention, and human interaction are increasingly mediated, monitored, and recorded, inviting audiences to consider the ethical and emotional consequences of constant surveillance.
